The 1st XI secured promotion to the 2nd flight of the Huddersfield Drakes League with victory over Paddock. John Whites charges have been inconsistent for most of the season but Zube Raj with the bat and a great all round performance by Mirza Mobeen the season has been a success. The 2nd XI also met their objective by maintaining championship status. Amar Malik was the star man and he was well supported by Sharaz Ali and skipper Chris Madden. Whilst Danny Russell and Nigel Nawaz chipped in with the wickets. Notable performance was an away victory at The Wes were Chris Marsden smashed windows on his way to guiding the side to victory. 2ndXI PROMOTED TO CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Sykes Cup 1st round more details to follow... Almondbury 277-9 (S Khuram 91, N Latif 52, A Roberts 37; D Stratford 4-48) *Emley Clarence 277 (A Greenwood 70, J Lee 68; M Tesheen 4-35) Match tied. Replay Sunday 5th May. A credible batting performance saw the 2nd XI post 150 All out against premiership Barkisland in the Paddock Shield 1st round. At 82-2 things looked very good indeed until Chris Marsden ran out Fida Hussain on 37 and then holed out a couple of ball later. Mohammed Nawaz and Danny Russell managed to make a respectable total but with 6 overs left a much higher score should of been set down. Nawaz bowled excellently taking 3 for 32 from his 12 overs but some questionable fielding positions kept releasing any pressure the bowlers could apply. Barkisland eventually cruised home with 4 wickets in hand and 15 overs remaining. New Boys Bring Defeat Drakes league newcomers Moorlands of Mirfield were victorious against both 1st & 2nd XI this weekend. Nadim Latif's 48 was one bright spot as the 1st team failed to chased down 174 only managing 159 all out. Whilst back at Fernside a poor batting display by the 2nds also brought defeat. After bowling Moorlands out for 110 (A Malik 3-24) the top order failed only Saj Hussain (38) battered with application. A game which should of been a win, 99 All out, POOR DAY. GREAT START TO 2013 SEASON The snow has gone and the sun has come out..all is good at Fernside avenue. Skipper Nadim Latif has begun the season in winning ways, the return of Mirza Mobeen has proved a hit after game one, in fact after over one. The big pace man took 3 wickets with his 1st 6 balls of the new season and finished with another 5 for(5/26). Sajjid Khurram provided the support with some tight bowling early on. If it wasn't for well travelled Shane Payne(47), Denby 87 all out would have had a nightmare start to there Drakes league life. The batting had a couple of scares but sealed the game with 5 wickets in hand. There was also victory for the 2nd XI. The returning Dave Burns was the star of the day weighing in with a handful of wickets, including a hatrick. Amar Malik was too much for Denby 2nds he also got amongst the wickets. Senior players John Buckley And Chris Madden saw the side home with 20+ each. EXAMINER SEASON PREVIEW Nadeem Latif has taken over as skipper at ALMONDBURY in place of Martin Sykes. The Fernside club are still trying to formulate their first team squad and are hopeful of two or three new signings, at least one of whom will be no stranger to the Almondbury ground. Mirza Mobeen, who was both the leading wicket-taker (65 victims) and the leading run-scorer in 2011, is rumoured to be returning to the club after a season at Emley.
