Lascelles Hall were the visitors to Fernside on the first Saturday of the season were sun block was required. Saj Khurram (38) and Ankit Kukretti (32) helped Almondbury to 181/9 but this proved about 70 runs short on what was a very good batting track. The visitors experienced batting line up proved too much as they reach there target with 7 down and plenty of overs left. Danny Russell(3-13) & Mo Nawaz(5-43) got the 2nds off to a great start bowling out Rastrick for 96 but the batters failed miserably only Saj Hussain showed resistance with a classy 38 as the 2nds were all out for 77. Summer arrives but Still No Victory Whilst the sun has started to shine the 1st team are still in a slump, started around this time last year (2011). Only Mohammed Usman is showing the consistancy required to get out of this division with 37 against Paddock setting the home team a 143 target which proved not enough as Paddock knocked them off with 6 down. After a bright start to the season the 2nd XI seem to be following the 1sts regarding results. Paddock were the visitors to Fernside and requested another wicket be cut as they didn't like the look of the one prepared. This was never going to happen as Friday nights downpour meant no machinery could get to the very wet wicket. As the Paddock skippered pressured the umpire into starting the match, a reduced over game got under way, probably an hour too soon. Almondbury were stuck in to bat and immediatly started to struggle. Assan Ul Haq batting at number 8 starred with a bashed 36 but the first hour proved to be our downfall eventually all out for 94. As the wicket dried out Paddock strolled to a 9 wicket victory. 2012 Start is a Wet One Martin Sykes's new look 1st XI have struggled to get a run of games together as the weather proves to be a downer in April & May. With the first 2 league games washed out our first glimpse of newbies Mohammed Usman (Ex Holmfirth), Ashley Brothers (Ex Shelley and Saj Khurram (Ex Slawit) was the Sykes cup clash against Slaithwaite. After a bright start with 44 from Liam Brothers and 29 from Usman, no one else stood up to the mark and were eventually all out for only 115, which proved a easy task for a good Slawit XI. Linthwaite were next up for the 1st XI but their powerful batting line up proved too much for ACC. With 248/7 the visitors were always favourite. Dermot Lucid top scored with 45 and Usman continued his promising start to 2012 with 39 but lost falling 78 runs short. After the game skipper Martin Sykes tipped Linthwaite for the league title, saying " there won't been many better batting sides in our league this season, but they may have a problem with their chucking, I mean bowling" The 2nd XI have started a lot better with Matt Hanson 6 for 26 and Mohammed Sarfaraz 77 getting the better of Shelley followed by an expected defeat against top flight Marsden in the cup. Luke Stanger starred in the victory against Linthwaite with 61 whilst chasing down a target of 144. This result has put the 2nds on top of their league. New Faces and an Old one at Fernside for 2012 Recruitment over the winter months has provided some much needed new blood at Almondbury. With the loss of Dave Swan to Clayton West, to join up with good friend Antony "Seaweed" Langton. And Atif Kamran with Mirza Mobeen going to Emley via Lepton!! The new faces have been warmly welcomed. Ankit Kukreti has come in as overseas, recommended by ACC old boy SP Singh. Whilst well travelled Mohammed Usman has joined for Holmfirth along with Saj Khurram from Slaiwthaite. Another big signature is Ashley Brothers who has returned to play with elder brother Liam. Another returning ACC favourite is John Buckley, who has come out of retirement to play with son Ryan . The 2nd XI have also signed Mohammad Nawaz, Hassan & Irfan Ul Haq to add to a promising squad for 2012. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS
